Our GCSE Results 2016

The best ever GCSE results have been achieved at St Katherine’s with 62% of students achieving English and Maths A* to C and all students gaining qualifications.  Nearly a quarter, 24% of all grades were A*to A reflecting the very highest achievement across a broad range of subjects.  44% of all grades achieved were graded A* to B.

These superb results were achieved across the curriculum.  Subjects enjoying A* to A success include Performing Arts 55%, Drama 53%, Sport 47%, Statistics 46%, History 44%, English Language 35%, Biology and Hospitality 33%.  Many subjects also achieved great A* to C success – Statistics and Music 100%, Hospitality 93%, Biology 90%, Computing 90%, Sport 88%, Art 88%, Business 86%, Physics and Chemistry 85%, Geography 84% with Performing Arts and Classics achieving 82%.

68% of students achieved five A* to C grades overall with 59% of students having achieved 5A* to C including English and Maths.

In addition to the above, 22% of students achieved the English Baccalaureate.  Between KS2 and KS4 81% of students achieved at least the minimum level of progress in English and 56% of pupils achieved at least the minimum level of progress in Maths.

Following the recognition we received in our Ofsted report at the start of the year, along with this year’s excellent GCSE and A Level results, students at St Katherine’s are standing tall and achieving great success.

Our GCSE Results 2015

In 2015 we achieved our best ever results in Science and Maths. 69% of students achieved 2 or more good sciences, an improvement of 20% over the past three years. 65% of students achieved grade C and above in Maths.

Mr Walter, Assistant Headteacher for Science and Engineering subjects said “We are delighted so many students have gained top grades this year. 15% of all maths students have been awarded an A or A* grade and a further 20% have been awarded a B grade. This gives real recognition to our young people who have prepared carefully for their exams this year. Alistair  was our first student to be awarded an Arkwright Scholarship which contributes to the cost of his A level study, we couldn’t be more pleased with his achievement in particular”.

The proportion of top grades is reflected across a wider range of subjects. 48% of all grades awarded were the top grades A*- B and 68% of all GCSE grades were C grade or above.   Christopher Sammons, Headteacher “I am very proud of all our hardworking young people and staff.  I am delighted with the achievements of this year group, most of whom have achieved exceptional personal results. Other GCSE subjects to enjoy very high A*- C pass rates include: 97%  Art , 93% Chemistry, 90% French, 88% Physics, 85% Biology, 88% Geography, 83% Drama, 83% Philosophy and Ethics, 81% Graphics and Textiles.  67% of students achieved 5 A*-C grades overall, 56% have achieved A-C in Maths and English, with 51% of students having achieved 5A*- C including English and Maths.
